Hello. I am a London based designer, art director, and creative director specialising in brand identity, visual identity systems, corporate communications, and website user interfaces.
I’ve worked client side. I’ve worked agency side. I’m a leader and a team player. I’m agile and possess a ‘can-do’ attitude which brings out the best in projects, processes, and people. I’m very lucky to love what I do for a living and it shows in the work.

Overview
I was employed on a full-time, fixed-term contract to work on high profile projects including the update of the Bank’s brand identity, future-proofing the visual identity system, overhauling the website UI/UX, and creating launch campaigns for the £50 and £20 polymer banknotes.
Responsibilities
→ Full brand identity and visual identity system audit.
→ Pinpoint branding weaknesses and present rationales for change.
→ Present creative work to the Governor and Deputy Governors.
→ Website refresh UI/UX to meet minimum AA (WCAG) accessibility standards.
→ Oversee the creation of an accessible typeface in partnership with Monotype and the RNIB.
→ Define the photography style and direct videos, animations and photo shoots.
→ Direct the look and feel of the digital literature system, social media templates, charts, data visualisation and illustration style.
→ Create a sub-brand system for the BOE Museum, Prudential Regulation Authority (PRA) and Bank affiliates.
→ Lead, direct, and up-skill multidisciplinary teams to build internal capability.
→ Coach and mentor design staff.
→ Establish user guidelines and oversee the update of the brand portal.
Government background checks, extensive security screening, and security training was required to work at the Bank.

Overview
Full-time contract managing the UK design team and creatively directing the corporate brand refresh, website UI/UX overhaul, annual report and accounts, industry events, UK and US product brand development, and social media engagement campaigns.
Responsibilities
Design management:
→ Manage the creative project pipeline, assigning tasks, setting deadlines, and ensuring projects are delivered on time.
→ Work with external freelancers to ensure they understand and adhere to the brand’s visual guidelines when producing creative assets.
→ Review and approve high stake creative materials, ensuring they meet brand guidelines, are visually appealing, and effectively communicate the intended message.
→ Conduct regular performance evaluations for team members and identify areas for professional development and growth.
Creative direction:
→ Provide creative direction and guidance to the design team, ensuring projects are aligned with brand guidelines and creative objectives.
→ Conceptualise design concepts for various marketing campaigns and brand initiatives.
→ Lead collaborative sessions to generate innovative and compelling ideas for creative initiatives.
→ Offer guidance and feedback to team members, assisting them in refining ideas, designs, and content to meet creative and brand standards.
→ Champion a culture of continuous improvement, encouraging the team to experiment, learn from failures, and push creative boundaries.
→ Assist in the consistency and evolution of the Kooth brand by developing and maintaining a cohesive visual brand identity that aligns with the company’s overall brand positioning and values.
→ Establish brand guidelines that define rules and standards for the use of visual elements, including colour palette, typography, imagery, and overall design aesthetics for all product brands under the Kooth umbrella.
A full DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) check was required for the role which involved working with young people and vulnerable members of society.

Seven Brands
Role: Creative director
Seven Brands is a mid-sized advertising and bradning agency focussed exclusively on emerging markets. I was head hunted by the Global Head of Strategy to creatively direct the rebrand of Safaricom, Kenya’s largest telecommunications company. This brilliant opportunity was a one year full-time, fixed-term contract that involved extensive travel to Kenya.

During this busy period I worked in a freelance capacity with decision makers, stakeholders, and in-house teams on brand refreshes, website UI/UX overhauls, campaigns, and visual identity system development. The above clients came from personal recommendations, previous business contacts, and established client relationships.

Thoburns
Role: Creative director
Thoburns is a mid-sized corporate communications agency. I was head hunted by the managing director (whom I’d worked with at Interbrand and Siegel+Gale) to manage the in-house design team and creatively direct accounts for Adecco, ArcelorMittal, Barclays, CaixaBank, Gulf Bank, Jaguar Land Rover: InMotion, Macmillan Cancer Support and Petropavlovsk. A highlight from this period was winning the JLR account.
2009–2012

Role: Creative lead
I took time out from 2007 to 2008 to recharge my creative batteries. From 2009 onwards regular freelance work resumed and I established long-term relationships with branding agencies including Dragon Rouge, Fathom, Make Complex Simple, Saatchi & Saatchi Design, Siegel+Gale, and TILT. High profile accounts included Ahlstrom, BAE Systems: Hawk, Cambridge University Press, King Abdulaziz Center for World Culture, King Saud University, Mott MacDonald Group and the UEFA Champions League Final. In 2013 my wife and I took a year out to travel across Asia.

Whitestone International
Role: Co-founder / Creative lead
Whitestone is a niche sports branding agency. I was invited to join at the agency’s inception, becoming a co-founder. My role was to lead a small and highly dedicated creative team. Accounts won included FIFA, Adidas’s 2002 FIFA World Cup licensee and merchandising programme, the 2003 and 2007 FIFA Women’s World Cup emblems, the 2006 FIFA World Cup Germany™ emblem, Liverpool FC and Manchester City FC shirt campaigns, and the rebrand of the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB). Other accounts included AstraZeneca, ATP, Moorhead James LLP, Olympic Council of Asia, Reebok, West Ham FC, and Umbro.

Interbrand
Role: Creative lead
Interbrand is one of the world’s largest and most respected branding agencies. My role within the Brand Experience team was to consistently produce world class creative solution. Accounts included the original British Airways London Eye identity, FIFA’s corporate identity and branding, the 2002 FIFA World Cup Korea/Japan™ branding and guidelines, and the oneworld™ global guidelines. Interbrand was a great experience working with some the brightest people in the industry on best accounts imaginable. Right time, right place ∼ it felt like the stars had aligned.

Thumb Design Partnership
Role: Senior designer
Thumb was a London based mid-sized corporate design agency. My role was to design and produce annual reports, environmental reports, corporate identities, corporate literature, and guideline manuals. Accounts included Amerada Hess, BP, Cinven, English China Clays Plc, Exxon Chemicals, Laura Ashley Holdings PLC and Wembley Plc. My time at Thumb provided a solid grounding in the corporate communications world.

Signal Communications
Role: Designer
Signal was a small design firm based in Preston. My role was to produce creative design work for print. Accounts consisted of local and regional businesses, and arts based charities.

Commercial Advertising Services (CAS)
Role: Junior art director
CAS was one of Manchester’s largest advertising agencies prior to its MBO. My role was to learn the ropes, add spark to the creative department’s output, and make the tea. Accounts included Belstaff, British Steel, ICI, HM Customs and Excise, and Leyland DAF. I was very lucky to land a job straight out of university during a recession, and CAS was a great place to cut my teeth.
